The three main types of web hosting are shared hosting, virtual private server hosting and dedicated server hosting. It’s a little tough to choose so were going to give you the low down.
Shared web hosting
This type of web hosting is the cheapest of the three and allows you to host a website of your very own on the internet, much like this one that your reading now. With this type of hosting you are sharing a dedicated server with other people. All system resources on the dedicated servers are usually split up equally amongst all of the customers.
Virtual private server
This type of webhosting is exactly the same as shared hosting except you get root access to the server which means you can do more advanced things like setting up your own custom name servers like ns1.yourdomainhere.com and ns2.yourdomainhere.com.
You will also get much more system resources that shared hosting and usually your also allowed to break up your VPS into smaller shared hosting account if you want to. Some people even resell some of these accounts to make up for the slightly higher cost.
Virtual private servers are also sometimes called virtual dedicated servers but they generally refer to the same thing. VDS is a popular acronym that is used to represent virtual dedicated server.
Dedicated server
This is the same as a VPS except instead of getting just a larger share of the resources. You get the full server all to yourself and this means you get all of the computing power and all of the servers resources all to yourself.
